Metrology Automation Co-op (Summer 2026)

Description:

  • This position will be responsible for helping design metrology processes for new launch vehicles as Plant Spartanburg enters the era of vehicle electrification.
  • This position works closely with Body Shop Production and Total Vehicle Quality to define Plant Standards.
  • The student will be exposed to the entire manufacturing process from the beginning to final shipment to customer.
  • Students have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the entire BMW Group. 
  • The student will support the Metrologists on the team with various projects such as, but not limited to process improvement of inline metrology applications, design of measurement processes, and statistical analysis of data.
  • Other smaller projects could include CAD design work in CATIA and Python script writing for automation.
  • The student will be joining the Body Shop Metrology group who is responsible for guaranteeing a conflict-free geometric and dimensionally accurate body for series and new model production.
  • The team steers the quality of the product through internal processes and by working directly with production organizations.
  • Manage and steer assigned projects
  • Help to integrate new launch vehicles into production through process design
  • Design measurement processes for automated robot cells
  • Working with a team to do root-cause analysis on technical solutions
  • Support process engineers in improving product knowledge across the team
  • Design measurement processes and programs
  • Project Management for Laser Radar Measurement Stations
  • New vehicle integration projects into measurement stations and measurement room.

 

Qualifications:

  •  Full-Time Student pursuing a degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Related Engineering field of study
  •  Interest in utilizing statistical tools to analyze large data sets is preferred
  •  Writing code, Robotics, or Metrology experience is a plus
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major)
  • Have enrolled student status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
  • THE WORK TERM DATES ARE May 18th – August 7th, 2026.
  • Must be an enrolled student during all three rotations.
