PhD Generic AI Regression Models for Early Phase Crash Design (f/m/x)
THE FUTURE IS WHAT WE CREATE WHEN WE TAKE OUR VISIONS TO THE LIMITS.
PHD AT THE BMW GROUP.
Bridging the gap between your doctoral studies and the kind of career challenge you’re looking for isn’t always easy. That’s why our ProMotion PhD programme gives you the opportunity to apply your passion and scientific expertise to very real challenges that could shape the future of mobility. If selected, you’ll have the chance to really develop your own future career path with us through your practice-related thesis, promote your chosen specialty from within – and position yourself to secure the career you’ve always wanted.
Our department focuses on passive vehicle safety, especially crash scenarios, using extensive finite element simulations to analyze vehicle behavior during collisions. This PhD thesis aims to develop a foundation model trained on the large simulation dataset to capture patterns and support vehicle safety development. Additionally, an interactive application will be created to enable intuitive exploration and analysis of the simulation data for improved decision-making and research.
What awaits you?
- You will support comprehensive analysis and preprocessing of large-scale simulation data, including curves and scalar values.
- Furthermore, you help to develop and train a Foundation Model using the entire database of passive safety simulation data.
- In addition, you will research state-of-the-art possibilities for an interface that enables users to interact with the foundation model.
- Moreover, you contribute to close collaboration with passive vehicle safety experts to validate and refine the model and application.
- You will also assist in preparing and presenting research findings for scientific journals and conferences, advancing vehicle passive safety and data-driven modeling.
What should you bring along?
- Studies in computer science, data science, mechanical engineering or mathematics.
- Strong background in machine learning, with experience in neural network architectures and regression modeling; experience with large-scale foundation models is a plus.
- Familiarity with programming languages and tools for data processing, model development, and integration (e.g., Python, TensorFlow).
- Experience in handling large-scale simulation databases and extracting relevant training data.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex engineering challenges.
- Creativity and innovation to explore novel approaches and extend existing methods.
- Strong written and oral English skills.
