WHAT AWAITS YOU.

  • Serve as an intern on the E-Mobility Team, focusing on battery cell technology scouting.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging battery cell technologies for BMW’s future electric vehicles.
  • Research North American battery material and cell innovations, with an emphasis on technologies that enable fast charging.
  • Improve BMW’s scouting methods for information gathering, trend analysis, and internal communication.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at an accredited college or university.
  • US Work Authorization required.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (overall, not just major).
  • Completed at least 60 college credit hours at the time of application.
  • Ability to work full-time (36.25 hours/week).
  • Must submit an unofficial college transcript with your application.

 

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING.

  • Field of Study: Materials science, electrochemistry, chemistry, physics, or related fields.
  • Business fluent English.
  • Coursework and motivation in the following topics: electrochemistry, materials science, electrochemical storage systems, batteries, chemistry, physics, data science, electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, and/or techno-economic analysis.
  • Excellent time-management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Attention to detail and clear documentation.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable to a dynamic environment.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Proficiency with AI models (e.g., Claude, GPT, Gemini) and/or AI tools (e.g., Perplexity, Cursor).
  • An openness to experiment with AI models and tools for use cases relevant to the battery field and/or technology scouting.
  • Hands-on experience with programming languages, such as Python, MATLAB, or JavaScript.
  • Preferences:
    • Proven experience in electrochemical storage systems, especially lithium-ion batteries.
    • Hands-on experience with battery materials development, processing, manufacturing, and/or recycling.
    • Hands-on experience with cell design, cell manufacturing, and/or cell performance testing.
    • Experience and confidence in collaborating with internal and external colleagues of diverse skills and motivations, including internationally.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position. This is a hybrid role that requires office days at the Mountain View, CA office. 

 

Undergraduate students: Hourly rate is $32.50. 
Graduate students: Hourly rate is $40.00.

 

The selected student's current academic level will be used to determine the final pay rate. This statement is in accordance with state and local pay disclosure requirements.
