IT Infrastructure Engineer Intern (Summer, 2026)

Description:

Assist with the planning, implementation, and support of IT solutions from concept to operation. Assist with the development of IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking equipment, cloud services, and end-user devices, by working with emerging and existing technologies. Provide support for infrastructure-related systems that meet BMW-defined standards.

 

 

The qualified intern should expect to contribute to the following functions:

  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, network equipment, and end-user devices, under guidance from senior resources.
  • Support deployment, validation, and quality review of new and upgraded infrastructure components.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external providers to align IT operations, design concepts, and solutions.
  • Monitor system capacity.
  • Assist with system availability, backups, and redundancy through operational processes such as installations, upgrades, patches, and maintenance.
  • Assist in managing IT projects to support long-term infrastructure planning and system stability.
  • Document system configurations, best practices, and lessons learned to enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Assist with the analysis of IT service reports and metrics to ensure platform stability and security.
  • Assist with IT infrastructure lifecycles, including hardware upgrades, software updates, and security patches, to reduce operational risks and maintain business continuity.
  • Learn IT operations with global BMW infrastructure strategies, security standards, and maintenance processes.
  • Participate in ITIL processes such as change, incident, and configuration management.
  • Develop reports to track and ensure SLA compliance and adherence to IT processes.
  • Support collaboration tools, containerization services, and DevOps initiatives.
  • Communicate with business and IT stakeholders to support IT service delivery.
  • Learn how to present infrastructure solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Preferred Degree Programs: Computer Science, Information Technology / Information Systems, Network Engineering, Network Administration, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Information Science.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have enrolled student status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT.
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
  • THE WORK TERM DATES ARE May 18, 2026 - August 7, 2026.
