Our Maintenance team at BMW Hams Hall keeps highly automated production facilities running safely, efficiently and to BMW Group standards. As a Control Engineer, you will provide specialist controls expertise, lead technical problem solving and deliver upgrades that improve equipment performance, reduce obsolescence risk and secure long-term technical availability.

What awaits you?

• Provide expert controls support to manufacturing and maintenance teams, resolving complex technical issues across automated production facilities.
• Lead root cause investigations, data analysis and optimisation activities to improve technical availability, reliability and volume efficiency.
• Plan and implement long-term control system solutions, including equipment upgrades driven by obsolescence, ageing assets, software releases and evolving technical standards.
• Support project planning and implementation for new and existing facilities, influencing controls concepts, processes and future manufacturing solutions.
• Monitor, communicate and document technical changes to ensure compliance with specifications, safety requirements and business standards.
• Use maintenance and reporting systems such as SAP and Smart Maintenance to log issues, manage scheduled tasks, follow up trends and escalate availability risks.
• Share expertise through training, coaching and technical support for maintenance associates and wider interface partners.

What should you bring along?

• A recognised engineering apprenticeship or Mechanical, Electrical or Technical qualification at minimum NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent.
• Minimum five years’ maintenance experience within an automated process or manufacturing environment.
• Strong practical knowledge of automated technical equipment and control systems, ideally including PLC, CNC, robotics, gantry or automated warehouse systems, application robots and calibration systems.
• Expertise in one or more relevant technologies such as ABB or KUKA robotics, drive technology, vision systems, network and fieldbus technology, sensors and actuators, control cabinet construction, EPLAN, hydraulics, pneumatics or electrical installation standards.
• Good understanding of maintenance systems, spare parts processes, reporting tools and safe working practices, with the ability to follow standards and legal compliance requirements.
• Excellent analytical problem-solving skills with a proactive, self-motivated and structured approach to identifying permanent solutions.
• A confident communicator and team player who can work independently, collaborate across Maintenance, Production, Logistics, Quality, Process Planning and suppliers, and train others within the team.
